There's cost associated to living on one's own. You may be thinking, "Well duh, that's obvious" but I really mean it.
Since I moved into my apartment (though not yet 100%), I have been making a list of things I need to purchase. Cookware, furnitures, amenities, etc.. The list is pretty long. Today, I took advantage of Saturday's freedom and purchased some of the things on my list. Here's picture of them.
Cookware.
The total of everything shown was about $130 dollar (and I went after cheapest stuff made out of plastics!!) At least I made sure the plastic tupperware are all Microwavable (I see much use out of a microwave -- which reminds me, I should order a GE microwave and get employee discount). Plastics are the future, hahaha. Let me quote:
Mr. McGuire: I want to say one word to you. Just one word.
Benjamin: Yes, sir.
Mr. McGuire: Are you listening?
Benjamin: Yes, I am.
Mr. McGuire: Plastics.
Benjamin: Just how do you mean that, sir?

Plastics are great. They are cheap, durable, and functional. I bought pretty much everything cheapest except for the towels in the third picture. I made sure at least they are... of soft quality. I guess I played my role of a single guy living in a tiny studio apartment fairly well.
What's left on my list are furniture. Standing lamp, a futon, etc. And let me tell you, furniture can be quite expensive. I went to buy a futon today and was surprised they are around $500. A small table for dining will run you at least $150 with chairs. A bed? Expect $700. Life costs a lot more than I thought!! (and shipping cost of my stuff from Nebraska costed me around $700, too..). I wish I was getting married and most of those things were paid for. Sadly, I get to face all these costs with my pocket when I have $10,000 debt on my car.
Anyhow, take a moment and thank your parents for the things you take for granted. They have provided you with all the food, lodging, clothing, etc. unconditionally. Moments like these, I miss my home.
